Match Report
Salisbury Cathedral School Girls-U11A vs  IAPS at Bryanston
On: Wednesday, 02 Oct 2019
Venue: Away

Overall: 4th Position

A thoroughly enjoyable day of hockey for the girls. We had high hopes going into it and the goal was to qualify for nationals. We performed superbly in the group stages wining all 3 games convincingly. The brand of hockey we were playing was a delight to watch and the girls were on course.

We went through as winners of pool 2 and we faced Castle Court in the q/f. We continued our imperious form by dispatching them 4-0 with Kimberley adding to her impressive tally of goals with a hat-trick.

This meant we were one game away from both qualifying for the nationals and reaching the regional final. Unfortunately, we came unstuck against a well drilled WHP side. We had our chances but the first goal was always going to be crucial in a tight contest and they got it. We tried to get back into and threw caution to the wind before conceding a second.

I was pleased with the girls fighting spirit but it just wasn't our day. The girls were clearly disappointed and this affected our 3rd/4th play off against FSM. We were flat, lacking our usual tempo and stumbled to a 1-1 draw. We had chances to win but lacked our mojo up front. We then were on the wrong end of penalty flicks and had to settle for a 4th place finish (still a good achievement).

On another day it could have been different, but I am extremely proud of the girls and they should be too.

Bea, Serena and the two year 5 girls Poppy M and Katherine W deserve special mention for performing particularly well.

Well done girls!
