Match Report
Salisbury Cathedral School Boys-U13A vs  Stroud School, Romsey
On: Wednesday, 16 Jun 2021
Venue: at Home

This was an excellent afternoon's cricket which ended in a narrow loss for the 1st XI. SCS won the toss and chose to bowl first. Daniel and Oli opened the bowling well and kept it tight in the first few overs. Stroud's innings though was punctuated by several run outs, in part due to risky runs, but also due to some excellent fielding by SCS. Some of the other highlights in the field were a sharp catch by Oli when the ball was hit hard at him and another good catch in the deep by Anton. Stroud finished their innings on 99.

In reply, SCS started well with George playing some lovely shots, including several cuts to the boundary. However, we started to lose wickets just as partnerships were forming and our run rate really slowed at the 13 over mark when we had been going along well in pursuit of our target. Stroud had a strong bowling line up and there were times when we struggled to score and, as a result, the required run rate started to go up. Going into the last two overs we needed 16 runs but some loose fielding gave us hope as we entered the last over. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be and a tight final over meant we fell just short of the target.

Despite the loss, the team should not be disappointed. I thought they bowled and fielding very well and cut down on the extras and overthrows from last week. Again, their attitude and effort was excellent as was their behaviour.

Many thanks go to Stroud for a great afternoon of cricket played in the right spirit. We wish them well for the rest of their season.
