Match Report
Salisbury Cathedral School Boys-U11A vs  Stroud School, Romsey
On: Wednesday, 01 Dec 2021
Venue: Away

Thank goodness we won that last game! As we made clear from the start, the results didn’t matter; there were infinite ways that we would find ‘winners’ in this brilliant experience at the IAPS regional rugby festival today. However, finishing on a high gave everyone a merry boost for our return back to SCS.

Our dozen boys were certainly the smallest squad out of all the 12 schools today. Maybe the other teams included boys in year 7 who are still 11 years old? It doesn’t matter. What gave us all such heart today is the improvement we sought with each game, each missed opportunity and each one taken. That our heads never dropped. No one showed any remote frustration or anything other than support for one another. They were a joy to coach for Mr Williams and Mr Frost and the fact that they were still buzzing when we got together when back at school, speaks volumes about them individually and collectively.

Hard to pick names, otherwise it becomes like a groom’s speech! However, once again, Jasper was outstanding. Rupert showed tremendous quality and like Robert, was absolutely determined to give everything. Rufus has the heart of a lion, loves the fight and you can see that he will have so much fun playing high level rugby in years ahead. Freddie L is brimming with class and his heroic try saving tackle against The Hawthorns - when he had no right to stop the ball carrier - was a particularly special moment today. Fraser was there at every ruck and much of our best defence and attack centred on his drive and ability. Fred and Eddie both proved how brilliantly set they are to become a terrific force in the Colts next year. William, TJ, Peter and Lucas all have the skill, co-ordination and quick feet to keep on improving as they have done so impressively this term.

Thank you boys for a cracking season and thank you to all the parents, who have cheered on and enjoyed the season as much as we have.
